Our Story

Generating Real Industry Pathways (GRIP) was founded to ensure secondary students continue to have access to high-quality gateway programmes that connect them with real-world industry experience. When the announcement came in November 2024 that these services would no longer be available, we knew we couldn’t let our students down.

With unwavering dedication and a relentless commitment to the communities we serve, our team worked tirelessly to build a fully resourced, ready-to-go business in under three months. GRIP was born—not just as a continuation of our work, but as a stronger, more focused organization designed to give students the skills, confidence, and support they need to succeed. By Term 1, 2025, we were ready to roll, ensuring schools, students, and industry partners could continue accessing the vital opportunities they rely on.

At GRIP, we stand by the belief – he waka eke noa – we are all in this together. Our journey has been one of collaboration, resilience, and shared purpose, ensuring that no student is left behind. Backed by a team of experienced and passionate educators and vocational advisors, GRIP carries forward more than a decade of expertise. Eight of our original team have come together under GRIP, united by our shared vision and deep commitment to the communities we live and work in.

With strong industry partnerships, tailored training programmes, and a people-first approach, GRIP is here to empower futures, break down barriers, and open doors to real career opportunities—because when we work together, we all move forward.

For me, this has never been just a job—it’s a calling. I believe in he waka eke noa—we are all in this together. GRIP isn’t just a business; it’s a promise. A promise that young people will have access to real career opportunities, the confidence to step into the workforce, and the support to succeed. It exists because I believe in them, because I believe in doing the right thing, and because I have a team that refused to walk away.

At GRIP, our team is our whānau. We support each other, we uplift each other, and we share the same fierce commitment to making a difference. This journey has been one of hard work, late nights, and absolute determination. And I wouldn’t change a thing.
